Day One - RPAYC Racing at the 53rd Governors Cup in California

Day One of the 53rd Governors Cup International Youth Match Racing Regatta got underway off the sunny Newport beach of California. This Under 23 Grade 1 Event has one of the toughest line ups seen in recent years. RPAYC has been represented by Clare Costanzo and her team of Juliet Costanzo, Ruby Scholten and Emma Rankin. Clare Costanzo is the only female skipper to qualify for this event.

Day One didn’t disappoint with some big crashes and plenty of close racing. Costanzo finished the day with 3 wins and 4 losses. The grudge match between the two aussies was an eventful one with (Costanzo -(RPAYC) Vs Finn Tapper (CYCA). After winning the prestart, Costanzo managed to extend her lead taking the win and gaining confidence that they have what it takes to beat one of the teams in the top 2 after day 1. “Picking a side to protect was hard today, it changed constantly throughout the race track” We will come out and keep chipping away tomorrow” Commented a determined Costanzo.
