Intro to Flying Ant Day

The Flying Ant Class is new and growing at the RPAYC!

What is a Flying Ant?

The Flying Ant is a 3.2m long double-handed sailing skiff with a sloop rig comprising main, jib and spinnaker, and the crew on trapeze. Its high-performance hull shape makes it a great intermediate dinghy for young sailors wanting to sail with someone else and experience the thrills of performance skiff sailing. With an asymmetric spinnaker option, the Flying Ant is an excellent training boat leading into the 29er skiff.
The Flying Ant is an ideal boat for sailors from ages 8 through to 16 years, with an optimum combined skipper/crew weight range from 80kg to 110kg.

Date and Time:

RPAYC Centreboard Lawn
9am – 2pm on Sunday 2nd June, 2019

What will happen on the day?

The Intro to Flying Ant day will be a fun introduction to the Flying Ant Skiff, for all Junior Sailors who are 9yrs and above. The day will cater for ALL Sailors who are current centreboard sailors or those who are 9yrs and above who have completed Tackers 2 or 3. Each Sailor will have the opportunity to Helm and Crew on the boat and we will tailor the learning for each sailor based on their experience. An experienced skiff coach, current Flying Ant Crews and 29er Crews will be on hand to support throughout the day. Each sailor will get focused attention from the support team on the day, to make their experience FUN and enjoyable.
The day will commence at 9 am with a briefing session, then a range of on-water trial activities. The day will conclude around 2 pm after some fun race activities, weather permitting.
