What is Alfreds Cruising?

For those who enjoy sailing at your own pace and in your own time, relaxing in an idyllic maybe exotic location, and even enjoying the occasional sundowner, RPAYC cruising events may be for you!  Cruising activities are organised by the RPAYC Cruising Committee for all members and their sailing friends.

The aim of these events is to create a Club atmosphere in which members can enjoy non competitive sailing, to encourage participation in organised cruise events, to share interesting and educational sailing information and to give club members more opportunities to meet other members and use the facilities of the club.

The RPAYC Cruising Committee organises a comprehensive event schedule which includes education evenings with expert and informative speakers, social events and sailing activities.

Stay up todate with events and activities of Cruising by joining the Cruising Newsletter today. JOIN HERE.

Events and activities include:

  • Enjoyable social evenings, often with an interesting speaker, are held on the First Friday of each month.  All Club members and guests are very welcome!  At these evenings, the RPAYC Cruising Committee organises speakers who are experts on a diverse range of subjects from heavy weather sailing or electronics on board, to members or guests sharing experiences of cruising to far flung cruising areas.
  • Inshore cruises in the Pittwater/Broken Bay/Hawkesbury area, with their myriad of secluded bays, are arranged on a regular basis. Most weekends will reveal cruising yachts from the Club enjoying this area.  Those who cruise together develop strong friendships and many social activities revolve around talk about the last or the next cruise. Regular Alfreds Cruising events explore this area.
  • A post Christmas cruise is organised each year to a coastal destination over a period of around two weeks. Sailing is generally planned on the basis of reaching the day's destination by mid-afternoon in order to enjoy a relaxing evening. Regular VHF Radio skeds are maintained between boats. Cruise planning is undertaken with the acknowledgement that cruising sailors do not venture out in unsuitable weather conditions!
  • ·Long weekend/public holiday coastal cruises can include destinations such as Newcastle, Lake Macquarie or Port Stephens or Sydney Harbour, Port Hacking or Jervis Bay.  Timing may include a few extended days.  A cruise to Sydney Harbour may have its ultimate destination at the fish markets, the historic explosives storage area at Bantry Bay or an exploration of the Lane Cove River.
  • Long coastal cruises are organised around every 2 to 3 years and may range from the Whitsundays. to Lizard Island or Yamba and the Clarence River, to the north and to Eden and Hobart in the south. Timing can be from 2 to 5 months.
  • All cruising activities are supported by an extensive Seminar series and, whether its your first cruise or you are  very experienced, Cruising Committee endeavours to have something for you

Members of RPAYC have enjoyed all this, and are keen and happy to share their knowledge and experiences and link up with you at Cruising events and/or at any time should the sailing opportunities coincide.
