Yacht Racing

The Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club is one of Australia's leading and best yacht clubs within the sport of sailing and is regarded as one of the premier yacht clubs in Australia.
The Club's racing program and activities are second to none. Our professional event administrators ensure that yacht racing is innovative, safe and user orientated with a varied program year round, combining inshore and offshore racing. We pride our club on its ability to host high quality, professional events in a pristine environment. Racing is conducted all year round on most days of the week. The annual racing program outlines each event and when it is scheduled.
Crew are always welcome to join in the races and an online crew register is available. Skippers will contact  you or you can add your name to the crew board outside the sailing office on race days. Members of any age or ability can enjoy the various fleets, divisions, great sailing locations and competition. The Club has a wide and varied range of sailing activities available, including training and seminars to increase your skills.
The Club actively encourages safe sailing. The sport of sailing and particularly racing and ocean racing, involves some degree of risk. The Club is very proud of its excellent safety record. However,  we believe this can only be maintained if we actively pursue a range of initiatives aimed at minimising the risk to the sailors and boats.
Please note: The sport of sailing can be a high risk activity. There is a significant element of risk in any activity associated with the outdoors and that persons participating as crew on a yacht or boat may be exposed to physical, mental and emotional hazards, adverse weather conditions and/or other unanticipated an unforeseen risks and dangers, and participate at their own risk.
The regulations we use are the special regulations of Australian Sailing that are very closely modelled on the World Sailing (ISAF) Special Regulations and for Cruising Boats, the Green Book Regulations. All boats participating in club races and cruises must comply with these regulations. There are several different special regulations categories that apply to different Club events. Category 7 applies to all club racing events with the exception being the Category 4 for Short Ocean Pointscore Series races 2 & 3 Blue Water Coastal Series races. Each boat participating in club events requires a valid and current special regulations equipment audit. Audits are conducted annually by volunteers. New members who have joined the club after Opening Day can contact the sailing office to arrange an audit on a Saturday (AM).
We look forward to seeing you on the water and at the Club.
