The Club actively encourages safe sailing. Think safety, sail safely. The sport of sailing and particularly racing and ocean racing, involves some degree of risk. The Club is very proud of its excellent safety record. However we believe this can only be maintained if we actively pursue a range of initiatives aimed at minimising the risk to the sailors and boats.
The regulations we use are the Special Regulations of Yachting Australia, that are very closely modelled on the International Sailing Federation's Special Regulations. All boats participating in Club races must comply with these regulations. There are several different special regulations category's that apply to different Club Events. Category 7 applies to all Club Racing events with the only exception being the Category 2 & 3 Blue Water Coastal Series races and the category 4 Two-Handed Offshore Fleet races.
Each boat participating in Club events requires a valid and current Special Regulations Equipment Audit. Audits are conducted annually by volunteers over the four Saturdays prior to Opening Day. New Members who have joined the Club after opening day can contact the Sailing Office to arrange an audit on any given Saturday.
An audit can be as simple or as complicated as owners wish it to be. Owners are asked to submit a completed Audit Form to the Sailing Office prior to the audit so that neither the volunteer auditor nor owner, waste time in conducting the audit. The audit forms are available from reception or alternatively, they can be downloaded here.
At the time of the audit, owner's need to ensure that all equipment for the relevant category is on board and that the equipment is laid out ready to make the audit as quick and as easy to conduct as possible. If you need advice on how to set-up your boat with the appropriate equipment please contact the Sailing Office who can arrange an auditor to contact you or, visit your boat.
The YA Special Regulations are published as part of the YA Racing Rules of the Sailing handbook. The Special Regulations are published every four years. They can be amended from time to time during their four year period of currency.
