RPAYC announces The Alfred’s Festival of Sail |
Thursday 9 September 2010
The Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club based at Newport on Pittwater will conduct its inaugural two day 'Alfreds Festival of Sail' over the weekend of 16-17 October this year. The event has been organised as a precursor to the 30th Anniversary of the Club's famous Pittwater to Coffs Harbour Yacht Race commencing on 2nd January 201.
The Alfreds, as the Club is generally known, welcomes all yacht owners, both monohull & multihull, to come and join in an innovative programme of events which is aimed at ensuring fun & friendly competition both on water and ashore afterwards back at the club.
A key point of difference for this event is the inclusion of a fun, relaxed Cruising Rally for non racing yachts. The Alfreds has designed the Rally to attract not only local cruising people from around Pittwater but also visitors from Sydney Harbour, Gosford & elsewhere who will be attracted by the rally as a reason to cruise to Pittwater, utilise the Club's modern marina and clubhouse facilities and enjoy an interesting, educational cruise in the area around Pittwater and the Broken Bay estuary.
Past Vice Commodore and one of the principal organisers of the Alfred’s Festival of Sail John Ellis said, "A unique aspect of our inaugural Festival of Sail is the inclusion of a Rally event specifically designed to attract Cruising yachties to participate over the two days and also enjoy the regatta vibe back at the club afterwards with the racing competitors. We hope to encourage all peninsula sailors as well as those from further afield to join us for two days of great sailing on the magnificent waters of Pittwater and the Broken Bay estuary."
Casual Marina berths will be available at discounted rates for all visiting yachts participating in the Festival of Sail.
The racing programme includes both inshore and offshore courses catering for multihulls as well as monohulls over both days of the Festival. A special feature will be the running of the relatively new sportsboat class of Melges 24 East Coast Championships as part of the Festival of Sail.
The event will feature:
- a 2 day Cruising Observation Rally
- 2 days of Racing for keelboats and multihulls, inshore & offshore courses, spinnaker & non-spinnaker
- 3 nights Marina berthing at a super discounted rate for visiting Festival participants
- Breakfast available early each day; Bar, Bistro & CYO open 'til late
- Enjoy Live Music on the Sundial Lawn after sailing each day
- Grand Finale Festival Prize Presentation Sunday for Cruising Rally & Yacht Racing events
The Alfreds welcomes all participants back at the club after cruising and racing to relax, mingle and enjoy live music at halyards Bar & Bistro on the Sundial Lawn where event presentations will take place.
