MEDIA RELEASE – January 2010
NOTICE OF RACE POSTED AND ENTRIES OPEN FOR SPS 2010
The Notice of Race for Sail Port Stephens 2010 has been posted and can
be downloaded now from the event website – www.sailportstephens.com.au Entries are now open for this year’s event across all divisions,
including the Commodores Cup (PHS), the NSW IRC Championships, the SB3
National Championships, Sports Boats and the Port Stephens Trophy. The
Port Stephens Trophy (sailed under PHS) will split in two this year,
with a Cruising and Racing division.
Now in its 3rd year, Sail Port Stephens is expected to increase in size again this year, building on the momentum of 2009’s 160% growth –with a fleet of 64 boats, ranging in size from 22 to 65 foot.
With the dates (12th to the 18th of April) coinciding with the NSW Term 1 school holidays, it’s a fantastic opportunity to include the whole family in the regatta, and the Organising Committee is working hard on building important aspects of the event to make it a kid-friendly environment.
“We’ve put together a fantastic kids program for the 2010 event that will make finding things to do during the day when sailing is on, really simple for mums and partners “said Event Manager Jody O’Brien. “There will be a package of fun activities that provides a stress free, enjoyable day out for mums and kids – and there’ll be something to do every day of the regatta “she said.
The nightly social program also strives to be family friendly, with a number of the venues working on providing some on site entertainment and activities for kids.

Getting to Sail Port Stephens is easy, by water, land or air – with direct flights into Newcastle from Melbourne, Brisbane and the Gold Coast – and it’s an easy drive up the F3 from Sydney.
The feeder races for the event will be on again this year with the RPAYC’s Pittwater to Newcastle on Saturday the 10th of April and NCYC’s Newcastle to Port Stephens race on Sunday the 11th of April.
The Notices of Race for both these races will be posted soon.
