Dave Hazard from RNZYS crowned 2011 Harken Youth MR champion

The Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron team of Dave Hazard, Jamie Dawson, Chris Steele, Michael Boucher and Katie De Lange have been crowned the 2011 Harken International Youth Match Racing Champions with a resounding 3-1 victory over 2010 runner-up Jordan Reece representing the RSYS.The three days of racing were hosted by the RPAYC following another perfect day on Pittwater.

Racing got underway at 1030hrs with the breeze an 11-12kts Nor Easter on a course north of Scotland Island. With the pressure building to 16-17 knots by and to 22 knots by the final race, the scene was set for another glorious day of youth match racing. The 2011 HARKEN event was going to finish on a high note with Race Office Ted Anderson managing to get through every race scheduled for the event over three days of competition.

Semi finalists decided after Day Two of Harken Int'l Youth MR

Racing forged ahead today in the 2011 Harken International Youth Match Racing Championships, hosted by the RPAYC, with a further 11 flights and both round robins completed on day two, ultimately deciding tomorrow’s semi finalists.

The RSYS team skippered by Jordan Reece had a great day with 7 wins from 9 starts and is on top of the leader board on a countback from yesterday’s co-leader and defending champion Tim Coltman. Dave Hazard from the RNZYS is just a point back in third and Nick Howe from the RSYS snuck into tomorrow’s semi finals on a countback.

Day One – 19th Harken International Youth Match Racing Championships 2011

Wind shifts were the dominant factor on day one of the 2011 Harken International Youth Match Racing Championships hosted by the RPAYC on Pittwater today. With 6 out of 10 flights completed of the first round robin, it was RSYS’s Jordan Reece and the defending Harken champion Tim Coltman from the RPNYC showing a perfect scorecard with four wins each, to finish on top of the day’s racing.

James Spithill special guest for the HARKEN Youth MR Championships

Fresh back from winning the unique fleet and match racing double in the AC45 World Series in San Diego, James Spithill, current America’s Cup winning skipper and one of RPAYC’s favourite sons, has come back home especially to be guest of honour for the 19th annual HARKEN International Youth Match Racing Championships and Rockin' Robin Trophy, hosted by The Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club from Saturday 26 November until Wednesday 30 November 2011.

Spithill will be guest speaker at the opening ceremony on Saturday 26 November to welcome the competitors and talk about his history with the HARKEN and the doorways it opened for him. He will also be on the water to witness the match racing action first hand and will certainly provide some added inspiration and motivation for the youthful competitors.

America's Cup - Yachts sail for Brisbane

Australia's America's Cup racing history has set sail for Sydney following an extensive 9 week refit in Mackay Marina Shipyard.

Both the KA-5 Australia and KA-14 Steak n Kidney have departed Mackay Harbour, this morning at 9am.   The two iconic yachts are to arrive at Brisbane Rivergate Marina Thursday morning 1am and will be available for media to inspect throughout thursday and friday.
