RPAYC Golf Challenge 2011

The Annual RPAYC GOLF CHALLENGE, was played at our reciprocal club, The Bayview Golf Club on Friday the 7th of October.

Seventy seven players representing their yachts, in teams of 4-3 and 2 competed in the 4 ball ambrose on the beautiful, yet challenging course, after a quick breakfast, with a shotgun start at 8 o’clock, followed by lunch at 1.30, with a few drinks.

Everyone was a winner on the day as the weather turned for the better, during the morning.

Etchells NSW States 2011: countdown to State Championship

The start of the Etchells NSW State Championship is just one month away and big fleet numbers are still a reasonable expectation. 

The NSW Etchells State Championship target fleet number of 50 boats seems an unlikely goal when reading the current online entry list. But, as all good sailors know, the best time to enter an event is at the last minute, much to the frustration of an event organising committee.

Regatta Director, David Ritchard, is well versed in dealing with the complications of planning for a large number of entries and then sitting patiently waiting for them to arrive. “Most of our Australian entries will come in late as I expect they are waiting to see if they have qualified for the Sydney Worlds. For the local sailors, well this is normal. Last minute entries happen no matter what sailing event you are organizing,” Ritchard said.

UTS’s Jay Griffin wins inaugural University Match Racing Championship 2011

Day Two - 2011 RPAYC University Match Racing Championship

The team from University of Technology Sydney skippered by Jay Griffin  along with crew Jackson Cransfield, Kathleen Stroinovsky, Katie Webb, Scott Cotton and  reserve Carla Sexton  have been crowned  the inaugural University Match Racing Champions for 2011 hosted by The Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club.

A light drizzle of rain under grey skies and a 5-7 knot Southerly was the weather recipe for Day Two, held on a course just off Towlers Bay on Pittwater. It was enough to saturate the competitors and umpires who endured another long day on the race track.

Griffin leads after Day One - University Match Racing Championships

The inaugural University Match Racing Championship 2011 hosted by The Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club got underway yesterday on Pittwater in perfect conditions in a 10-15 knot WNW.

The event has attracted six teams from some of Sydney’s top universities with sailors from UTS, Sydney Uni and Uni NSW competing in the event. The ISAF graded RPAYC Match Racing championship, a sanctioned Australian University sport event utilised the RPAYC’s  fleet of Force 24 keelboats with a crew of five.

The Alfred’s Festival of Sail back for a 2nd year

Dates: 5-6 November 2011

The Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club based on Pittwater will host its second annual ‘Alfred’s Festival of Sail' over the weekend of  5-6 November 2011.

The Alfred’s, as the Club is colloquially known, welcomes all yacht owners  whether racing or cruising to come and join in a program of events which aims at ensuring fun & friendly competition both on water and ashore afterwards back at the club.
