Victoria – Geelong Week Jan 23-26 2010 Many Alfred members and yachts took place in this massive regatta, with
over 440 yachts in total. Opening the regatta was the 32nm
Williamstown to Geelong YC passage race with boisterous 25kt plus
winds providing reaching conditions. Quite exciting with a single start
line!
Some fantastic results for RPAYC including 1st in the Bundaberg Rum Sports Boat Nationals with John Bacon & James Major ‘Roger That’ with RPAYC’s Cameron Miles on the helm.

5th went to Heath Walters ‘Scooter Central’ RPAYC and 13th to Shaun Collins ‘No Comment’ RPAYC.

In IRC Div 3, owner/ skipper Jason Antill’s ‘Even Finer’, who sailed over 600 nm to get to the regatta, achieved 3rd place, with an all Alfreds member crew including Trevor Hannah, Annie Taylor, Arthur Barnes, Peter Swatman, Tony and Liz De Soyres.
2ND place went to ‘Aroona’ RMYC skippered by Andrew McPhail, with the crew including tactician Terry Wetton and 2 Youth Development sailors.
In IRC Div 2, the new King 40 ‘Canute’ SASC with locals Rob Brown, Ritchie Allanson and Micheal Fountain on board, sailed a great regatta to take out first place. ‘Aileron’ the Sydney36CR, RPAYC, Henk Welleman came 7th .
Katie and Grant Pellew took away 8th place in the Formula 18 Australian Champs in their fist regatta in this class.
Other RPAYC member sightings were Julian Plante and Ron Jones (Sledgehammer) racing regular on Bob Steel’s “Quest” IRC Div1.
Bruce McCrae (25 year member RGYC) tactician on Sydney 38 ‘CinQuante’, RGYC to 1st in division.
PRO for the series was Denis Thompson, IRC3 Course RO, Ted Anderson and also assisting Race Week management was Bill Pringle.
