Q - I have friends from RMYC Pittwater wanting to cruise north. Is it possible for them to participate in our seminars?

A - Yes, non-members can participate in the CC11 seminar series. Once we have published the seminar timetable they will be able to register for the courses of their choice. If the required course is free to RPAYC members it will also be free to non-members; if we need to recover costs, there will be a member fee and a corresponding non-members fee. All non-members will need to sign into the Club as visitors each day they attend the Club.

Q - Will there be a participation fee for the seminar series?

A - Cost incurred by the Club for each seminar topic will need to be reviewed and possibly amortised across participants.  In most cases the delivery of seminars will be by members who are subject matter experts in the topic being delivered and so this will keep costs low.  It is the objective of the CC11 Working Group to provide seminars at zero cost to members and where this is not possible to keep the cost as low as possible without jeopardising quality.  Courses such as Safety at Sea, Radio Operation and First Aid, requiring certification, will need to be provided by external agents and therefore will be subject to market pricing.

Q - Is my submission of expression of interest a formal registration to attend my selected seminars?

A - No, your submission of interest is to assist the CC11 Working Group to gauge demand.  Once demand has been established a seminar synopsis, cost and timetable will be published, and some topics may require multiple delivery dates.  We will invite all members to enrol by seminar topic and date following publication of the program.

Q - I have registered my expression of interest in the seminar series and also my intention to cruise, should my spouse also register?

A - Yes, the primary objective of the expression of interest phase is to analyse demand for the preparation seminars.  Your requirements may well differ from your spouse’s and your crew’s  requirements so we are looking for all requirements - skippers cruising, crew cruising and members not planning on cruising however wishing to participate in the CC11 Preparation seminar phase.

Q - Who are the organisers of this event?

A - The event is organised by RPAYC. The Coral Coast 2011 Working Group is chaired by Rob Starkey with members Maurice & Val Brynes, Donna Rohrs, Tony Nossiter, Warwick Lukins, Ross Scoble, Janet Dell and Eoin & Ann Asker.

Q - Can I be involved in the Prepare phase of the CC11 program and not sail north in the Participate phase?

A - Yes - just register your interest and the Working Group will keep you informed.

Q - What is the BB group?

A - If you have a general enquiry about coastal cruising - whether technical or otherwise - there is a wealth of knowledge amongst contributors to the 'Beyond Barrenjoey' (BB) email list. This is an interactive list of cruising sailors, members and non-members of RPAYC, many of whom have extensive experience in distance cruising. Once you have joined this list you can pose questions, make comments, and generally add to the interactions. The list has been set up to facilitate the sharing of interests and information on the finer points of cruising boats, cruising destinations and all that goes with it. The CC11 Working Group recommends that you join this email group - even if you only watch for the questions asked by others and the answers they receive. To do so please send an email to Marius Coomans at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

You may also ask any question via the CC11 Enquiry Form and the Working Group will direct it to a suitable person to respond.
