Over the past two months we have been crossing the continent, competing in Sail Melbourne, the 470 Nationals and the ISAF Worlds. We started off in early November by traveling down to Melbourne for the first regatta of the ISAF Sailing World Cup Series. We arrived in Melbourne a week before the regatta, to take part in 4 days of training to make final preparations for the regattas to come over the next seven weeks. With the whole Australian 470 team, including the golden boys Mat Belcher and Malcolm Page taking part in the training this was a great time to both finalize our preparation but also learn some new tricks off Mat and Mal.

2011 470 Junior Worlds and Junior Europeans Report |
|
Tuesday 23 August 2011 By Matthews & Robert Crawford For the past month we have been over in Europe competing in the 470 Junior Worlds and Junior Europeans Championships. The First stop of the trip was the Medemblik Regatta centre in the Netherlands, where the 2011 470 Junior Worlds where held from the20-28th of July. We arrived early to take part in the association training which was a good opportunity to both learn some new skills and learn about the venue as well as familiarize ourselves with the boat we had chartered. As the venue was in fresh water we found this time very useful to come to terms with the different feeling of the boat between fresh and salt water.

St Francis Yacht Club, San Francisco hosted the 2011 Laser 4.7 Youth World Championships in conjunction with the Laser Class Association. As promised the venue held up to it ‘windy, wavy and tidal’ reputation, providing us competitors with a challenging and rewarding regatta. The team comprised of eleven sailors from all around Australia, three of which were from RPAYC; Max Vos, Nick Connor and myself, Milly Bennett. All three of us achieved personal best results.
